Making puppets at the Thompson School

Artists Sara Peattie and Kari Percival organized workshops to make puppets and masks with students at the Thompson School.
Artist and illustrator Kari Percival worked with students in a series of after-school workshops at the Thompson School to make puppets, banners and signs for the Fox Festival Parade. Her project started with a visit from Marian Miller, an educator from Mass Audubon's Habitat Sanctuary. Then students made drawings of animals who might be found living in Arlington's parks and back yards. In the second session students made masks representing foxes, squirrels, rabbits and birds. In the third session the group developed signs with environmental messages. In the fourth session they made felt banners decorated with birds, and in the fifth session they practiced parading to live music. Many people gathered at Feast of the East to see their artwork and cheer them on!
